Solomon Islands: Hanging on to tradition in the digital age

This article is about how technology will affect the traditional Tikopian culture in Solomon islands, asking whether it will preserve or destroy their culture. The Tikopian ethnic group in Solomon islands are starting to be more involved in technology due to the digital era. This is creating a contrast from the tradition chanting and things such as rap music; people are starting to also record tradition music such as chanting on the new devices. The question is, is whether this technological advances with help of hinder the future of these cultural traditions. They use cell phones and MP3 players to record traditional music and communicate, and watch TV to see the rugby games.Some Tikopian's are using guitars, keyboard and such to play Traditional music. Its creating a blend of modern and traditional way of life hopefully it with sustain their cultural traditions instead of possibly killing the cultural traditions.
